Pegasus is the name of a piece of surveillance software produced by the Israeli cybersecurity firm NSO Group. The Pegasus software has been used to target journalists and activists across the globe – including in Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Mexico and the United Arab Emirates. When installed, the software is able to read messages, track calls, collect passwords, and access location tracking, microphones and cameras, without the user’s knowledge. Pegasus refers to the white winged horse in Greek mythology and is often used to symbolise liberty and divine forces.
